Consulting

Consulting, the original entity formed in 2009, offers visionary consulting services for publishers of books and magazines who seek to implement a customized digital publishing initiative.  EVN Consulting was founded by two pioneers in the publishing digital revolution.  We believe that many publishers, primarily mid-sized, but also some major publishers, need expertise in addition to that they employ in-house to help sort through the clutter and competing claims surrounding digital publishing.

We believe that expertise should be independent of any hardware, software or systems vendor so that our clients can have the benefit of objective knowledge in experience when creating crucial strategies and when implementing projects that will critically impact their success in the digital world.

We know that marketing is more important than technology, and that technology is rapidly changing so that it must be implemented in such a way as to be able to evolve over time.

Solutions

EVN Solutions, a spin-off of highly-successful EVN Consulting, was formed approximately 18 months after Consulting’s birth specifically to create solutions and tools requested by our clients in the XML technology space.  As further detailed below, our experienced product definition and development team are experts at creating pragmatic solutions that solve real business problems.  We pride ourselves on transparent, highly-interactive definition and development projects driven by customer need and market conditions that are brought in on-time and on-budget.

EVN Solutions creates products and services that enable publishers to focus on the art and science of publishing digitally - easily and intuitively augmenting, interfacing and transitioning to agile XML content with EVN's experience and expertise.  The company focuses on semi-custom and out-of-the-box implementations of leading technologies such as MarkLogic Server, Drupal, Ubercart, Java, Apple OS and Android applications that solve critical publishing business problems from XML editorial/curation to eBook distribution. Our suite of modules enables rapid implementation of key publisher capabilities at lower cost and risk than creating such systems from scratch or being forced into a cookie-cutter SaaS implementation. To provide true turn-key projects, Solutions offers best-of-breed conversion services to XML, including all major publishing formats (DocBook, PRISM, NLM, DITA, RelaxNG, METS, ALTO, etc) and packaging formats (ePub, Mobi, etc).

Our first major solution was done on behalf of Worldcolor Press (now Quad/Graphics).  We defined and built their Custom Publishing Engine – a software-as-a-services (SaaS) web application built on the powerful Mark Logic Server that enables editorial staff and consumers to quickly research and create new works from articles and chapters of magazines and books. 

We are the creators of the MarkLogic Server Module for Drupal  (MRL4D) and Mark Logic Search and Results module for Drupal (MLS&R4D) – both proprietary modules for the popular Drupal Web Content Management System (“WCMS”) that replaces its core relational database with the powerful Mark Logic Server XML platform.  These solutions are discussed in detail in later sections of this document.
